Rashida Leah Jones was born on February 25, 1976 in Los Angeles, California, USA. She is the daughter of actress Peggy Lipton and media mogul, Quincy Jones. Rashida’s father is of West African Decent/Welsh ancestry, and her mother is Jewish. She also has an older sister named Kidada. Both Rashida, and her older sister were raised in Bel Air, California. There she attended Buckley High School and Hebrew School. Jone’s has been a hard worker since she was very young. Her parents recall finding young Jone’s reading 5 books at a time, even after her bed time. Rashida’s hard work in school has earned her prestigious awards such as one for the National Honor Society.
Her parents noticed her musical talent when she was 5 years old. At that time, she was taking piano lessons; playing two part Bach inventions even before she was able to read the music. She was playing strictly of memory.
When Rashida was 10 years old, her parents divorced. Jones ended up living with her mother until she left for Harvard University. At that time, her sister became engaged to rap superstar, Tupac Shakur. Rashida was planning on becoming a lawyer, until hearing the verdict from the OJ Simpson trial, which really discouraged her from perusing this career. Instead, she decided to study theatre, religion and philosophy. She graduated from Harvard University in 1997.
It wasn’t until 2006 that her career really started shooting for the stars. She played the role of Karen Filippelli on the hit US TV show “The Office” which brought her fame throughout the world. Since then, she has also worked as a model for companies such as “The Gap” and “Triple 5 Soul”. She has appeared in numerous shoots for magazines such as “In Style” and “O magazine”.
